Gothic Glory In Gloucestershire

Stanley Park © Copyright 2012 LPOC

Stanley Park is a huge commercial development opportunity (subject to consent). Set in beautiful parkland gardens in a sought after village. A gross external area of approximately 25,000 sq. ft (2,322 sq. m).

Stanley Park was formerly a large country mansion and estate, based on an original 16th Century house and has a very interesting history, with connections with a famous mill owning family – the Marling’s. The extension and the rebuilding of the house in the Tudor Gothic revival style was carried out in the 1850’s.

Featured by the Listed Property Owners Club, this is a magnificent Grade II Listed Gothic magical pile. A feast for the eyes of fairy-tale grandeur.

Added to which the brave, brave soul who may take this fantastic project on, is commended to contact the Listed Property Owners Club, indeed join their very wise and helpful membership ….

Exchange For Smart

Old Telephone Exchange (c) 2012 Fields Commercial.

An old staple of the unique property genre. A former telephone exchange. No planning consents with this. No guarantees. Though plenty of conversion precedents. Here are one of two, to show that planning consents can be obtained for this type of structure ….

So this former telephone exchange in Buckinghamshire represents a lot of building potential for little money.

Our Buckinghamshire ex-Busby is a detached commercial building of approximately 380 sq.ft., with around 18 ft frontage. The building is within its own grounds, and has a forecourt fronting on to Bradwell Road, and a small garden to the rear. The remaining boundaries are alongside car parking areas. The property is of brickwork construction under a tiled roof. We recommend interested parties to check on service connections. The unit offers an opportunity for a small commercial building within an established community.

Location: Old Telephone Exchange, Bradwell Road, Milton Keynes, Bucks, MK5 8AB.

Tenure: Freehold.

Guide: £35,000.

Last Listing Calling This Lot !

The Other Old Telephone Exchange (c) 2012 Beverley Morgan & Co.

Here we have a curious comparison. The last listing was a former telephone exchange with NO planning permission, NOR any conversion to residential. The price of the last lot listed was good, but this is a mere £15,000 more for the fully finished property conversion. Probably down to location, location. That is the previous lot being in Buckinghamshire, which can be a little on the pricey side.

We will let our readers decide which one of these two telephone buildings ring their bell.

This second former telephone exchange has now been converted to a detached bungalow. The property refurbishment has the benefit of double glazing, gas central heating from gas combination boiler with radiators, lounge, double bedroom, fitted kitchen with hob and oven, floor and wall units, shower room/W.C, rear patio.

Location: The Old Telephone Exchange, High Street, Pontypool, Gwent, NP4 7AE.

Tenure: Freehold.

Guide: £49,950.

Shropshire Sore Point

Former Bridgenorth Ambulance Station (c) 2012 FHP Property Consultants.

Readers are probably aware – some listings can be a sore point with the local community. From experience these buildings, such as the closed Ambulance Station listed above, may make an ideal candidate for a mixed use planning consent application. That is to apply for residential use of part, with some form of amenity function for another part within the building. Even if this is simply a home-office lifestyle. The reason being that almost every big employer in the country started out as a one man or one woman band !

So if your unique idea for a home based business works out, you could very well have a couple of part time jobs for local folk to add onto your own home-work way of life.

There is certainly enough room to accommodate a home plus a place to work from in this former Ambulance Station – 2,440ft².

Location: Bridgnorth Ambulance Station, Innage Lane , Shropshire, WV16 4HL.

Tenure: Freehold.

Guide: £110,000.

Charming Chapel

The Old Chapel, Swinton (c) 2012 Cundalls Chartered Surveyors.

A thoughtful conversion of a late Victorian Chapel, creating a spacious and highly individual home. Many original features have been retained, such as pine wainscoting, fireplaces, internal doors and windows. A first floor has been skilfully inserted, such that the principal reception rooms remain full height, with soaring ceilings and overlooked by a galleried landing. The dining hall retains a lovely stone mullioned, stained glass window with tracery in the gothic style.

The focal point for the sitting room is an impressive plastered chimney piece, decorated with painted heraldic motifs, and having a York stone hearth and mantel. An intimate library area has been created in the eastern arcade, whilst the western arcade is currently used as a games room, with a snug room off.

The owners have re-designed the kitchen and utility room, installing a stylish range of units with granite work surfaces and comprehensive series of appliances. Of the four bedrooms, two are extremely large and have en-suites. Being at the rear of the property they both enjoy far-reaching views across the Vale of Pickering to the North York Moors. To the rear there is a private courtyard garden, where a raised patio has been built, from which to enjoy the views. There is ample parking on the gravelled forecourt and the property has oil-fired central heating.

Location: The Old Chapel, Swinton, Malton, North Yorkshire. YO17 6SL.

Tenure: Freehold.

Guide: £399,950.
