Unique Property Bulletin 18 March 2012

An Ordinary Building? Yes – Magical? Yes

Twickenham Film Studios (c) 2012 Christine Johnstone.

This very ordinary lump of building does not seem unique. A listed building it is unlikely ever to become. However, it is with a lot of sadness and the loss of a great deal of history and cinematic magic that these, the Twickenham Film Studios are closing down.

It is going out in the reflected glory of a golden Oscar awarded to Meryl Streep barely months ago, and historically for this film studio by the bucket load over many years. Recently used for hit films The Iron Lady, My Week with Marilyn, and War Horse, the iconic film works has gone into administration. The earlier building that stood here looked more iconic, but both are important in what they stand for. The entertainment and wonder produced within these walls.

Floating House II

Almost Floating House (c) 2012 Lows, Orkney.

Apologies for this. Waterside property is a bit of a fixation on the website. Comes from living by the sea for too long! If you haven’t tried it, you might like to think about living by the sea. Or as with this one, on the sea. Here we have another house so close to the water, it almost floats. Having worked in harbour office on a pier, it is the most sublime feeling. Very recommendable.

This little gem has a story to tell. Anyone who has been to Orkney is usually enchanted with the place. It is easy to fall in love with.

This house is at 10 Gray’s Noust, Stromness on Orkney. A town that feels more like Norway than anywhere in the British Isles. The whole place is unique. Not just one or two buildings. A visit, especially in the summer, with the midnight daylight, or off season at darker nights with the world famous Aurora Borealis – Orkney is a must to visit on the “to do” list of life.

A Real Treat – The Aurora Borealis (c) 2012 Martin Collins.

Former Fire Station

Brinklow Fire Station (c) 2012 The Excellent Kevin Hale.

This interesting proposition is situated at Heath Lane, Brinklow, Rugby, CV23 0NR, and is the former Brinklow Fire Station.

We had problems downloading the details, and worse, seller and/or agent put “Offers Invited”.

As buyers, we firmly believe this is a profound mistake. The MAJORITY of people we speak to need some price idea or guide. Anyone selling a building does themselves a great disservice by leaving the price off. Many buyers just “skip over” such unpriced items and sales are lost. This is all the more a sin as the building here is owned by the taxpayer!

Further details, please contact Warwickshire County Council.

The site extends to approximately 0.24 acres with a Detached Fire Station and related accommodation.

This is a fine looking piece of property. Anyone interested, please contact the council direct, or ourselves via our website Contact Page.

If anyone does manage to encourage the council to give an idea of price sought, please can they let us know so we can share it with our other readers. Many thanks.
