Whilst the United kingdom looked like an island aircraft carrier in World War 2, due to there being that many airfields about, nowadays these towers are becoming increasingly rare.

The Same But Different

We started this issue with a utilitarian box style of building at Shrewsbury, with a vital, life saving function. Here is another similar structure, again utilitarian in shape. However, whilst it is a similar genre, and had a slightly different use – for testing aircraft engines – it is situated a fair distance from the old Air Control Tower at RAF Condover in Shropshire.
