Wet, Wet, Wet.
The Water Tower, Surrey (c) 2013 Humphrey Bolton
What an avalanche of emails following the earlier water-fire-water-fire edition of the Unique Property Bulletin. We could understand lots of emails about lighthouses, but what is the attraction with converted water towers? Alright we are a little bias towards lighthouse buildings; so in deference to readers here is another Wet, Wet, Wet – sorry Marti Pellow – a fresh Water Tower
This aesthetically handsome conversion is a now a 5 Bedroom Detached House.
Stairs – Better Than A Gym – The Water Tower, Surrey (c) 2013 Hamptons
Agency Narrative: The Water Tower comprises an intriguing ‘landmark’ property, in the truest sense of the word, having been most imaginatively created and converted by the existing owners since they acquired this Listed Grade II Water Tower in the late 1980’s, and incorporated a Scandia Hus extension at a similar time, resulting in the overall property, now providing quite exceptional and versatile accommodation, which is arranged over three floors.
The Whole Point – Unique Views (c) 2013 Hamptons
Particular emphasis was placed on high levels of insulation, allowing for the maximum amount of natural light, and the specification throughout is of a high standard. Of particular note are the adaptable semi-open plan reception areas, large first floor balcony (which can be accessed from both the sitting and family rooms) whilst the ground floor dining room and kitchen/breakfast room lead out onto their own terrace and loggia (which is created by the balcony above), and the beautifully proportioned principal bedroom suite. It should also be noted that a further suite could be created by utilising the family room, library and the existing en suite shower room and sauna.
Not Just Feature Views – Fabulous Windows (c) 2013 Hamptons
Huge principal bedroom with beautifully appointed ‘Japanese style’ bathroom with separate shower
cubicle and wc en suite; 2/3 additional bedrooms; 2 family shower rooms each with wc and one with sauna; reception and inner hallways; downstairs cloakroom; triple aspect first floor sitting room with access out onto a large balcony; family room; library; most attractively fitted kitchen/breakfast room with utility room.

Watch This Space: Price = £500
A Real Adventure Awaits – Hampshire (c) 2013 Clive Emson
This is possibly the most inexpensive piece of land in the United Kingdom. It may well be the first half of a very interesting adventure that we have planned. The second half will have to wait. We weren’t disappointed when we saw it. Hopefully you wont be either. Perhaps a little frustratingly we need to wait a couple of editions before we can feature the second part of this for our readers.
For now we are on the hunt for an useful piece of land. Don’t worry about planning permission. You won’t need it, and no, it is NOT going to be a place to put a caravan. We have something far, far more exotic to go on a piece of economic land. Please watch this space.
Meanwhile back to this, almost quarter acre for very little money…
Auctioneer’s Description: 0.23 acre (0.17 hectare) parcel of overgrown woodland situated close to the A3 and Petersfield Golf Course. Directions: Heading south on the A3 the land is situated on the left hand side when taking the A272 Midhurst/Petersfield exit. The land is sited behind the crash barrier at the start of the slip road.
Viewing: Interested applicants may view on site entirely at their own risk. Take great care due to the location and do not proceed on foot on or near the A3 or the slip road.
IMPORTANT: All lots are sold subject to the Common Auction Conditions and Special Conditions of Sale (unless varied by the Sellers Solicitors), together with the Addendum, which will be available on the Auction Day.
Location: Land, Kettlebrook, Liss, Hampshire, GU32 2BY.
Tenure: Freehold.
Guide: £500 to £1,000 – LOT 85 – Auction 25th July 2013 at Southampton.

Pumping and Planning
Bracebridge Pumping Station, Nottinghamshire (c) 2013 Dave Pickersgill
This is an imposing and exquisite example of the art of brickwork at it’s best, and on an industrial scale.
The Bracebridge Pumping Station stands well back from High Hoe Road and is eligible for many potential development opportunities. The land to the front area is former allotments, owned by Bassetlaw District Council and it is believed that they might be wishing to dispose of this area.
Formal planning permission for a 40 bedroom nursing home has been granted, and a planning permission for 24 flats is pumping along (sorry). The agents have further details, and plans available for inspection.
It would appear that the local authority – Bassetlaw District Council – is receptive to decent proposals for this site as long as it is brought back from the current state of disuse and decay.
Location: Bracebridge Pumping Station, High Hoe Road, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, S80 2DW.
Tenure: Freehold.
Guide: £350,000.

Try Before You Buy
Lymm Water Tower, Cheshire (c) 2013 Watersons/Owner’s Collection
From reader reaction, our new addition of Try-Before-You-Buy seems to be well received. So we are making it a permanent addition. Every week we will have a unique rental property as the last featured in the Bulletin. It would be really appreciated if readers who do have a visit at one of the unique property rentals regale us of their mini-adventure. Many thanks.
This week we have the wonderful, and exquisitely old/new balanced architectural masterpiece of the Lymm Water Tower conversion and renovation. It is a long term lease, but that is often a good thing. Like a year in France, if you take a year at a unique property, then you will know if this sort of lifestyle is for you. Especially when there are a lot of stairs, and old age may be creeping on!
Exquisite Interior & Views Outward (c) 2013 Watersons/Owner’s Collection
In the picturesque village of Lymm in Cheshire, stands a Victorian stone water tower straight out of a fairy tale. The 130-year-old grade II listed landmark is of special architectural and historical interest. Recently renovated into a 5500 ft2 multi-award-winning contemporary home designed by one of Britain’s leading architects.
An Ensuite Like No Other (c) 2013 Watersons/Owner’s Collection
The wrap around extension follows the shape of the octagonal tower, making allowances for the mature trees which surround the site. Changes in level define the functions of the various spaces, which have been arranged relating to their function and in accordance with the changing quality of natural light as the sun tracks around from one side of the tower to the other. The sun rises on the kitchen and early morning spaces and sets on the dinning, evening spaces. The key Summer Lounge space sits in the middle facing due south. All these spaces have a sensory contact with nature and the seasons due to the use of large panels of low energy structural glass in the façade.
Location: The Water Tower, Tower Lane, Lymm, Cheshire, WA13 0BD.
Unique Rental: £5,500 pcm – Reduced from £7,000 pcm so catch yourself a bargain.
